Lazy and Vain Presents
April 22nd
at The Sound Factory
525 Harrison Street
San Francisco, CA 94107

When I first moved to the city I had a friend who lived in the 58 Tehama warehouse. He helped me among other things get comfortable with a city in which I knew practically no one. He introduced me to his roommates through which I met Isabel of Lazy and Vain. Isabel was working at what would become the most bizarre legitimate job I have ever held at this place called SF Clubs . SF Clubs owns 5 different mainstream venues around the Yay Area and is responsible for much of the decline of culture in the area. They own the Sound Factory which used to be a rave spot of the early 90’s but now all of their clubs have crumbled into hip-hop-elessness. Having gained repore for her involvement at the 58 Tehama shows and her connection to various Yay Area artists, Isabel was asked by the bosses at SF Clubs to throw a “rock night” in one of their rave sized venues. Something I would never have the balls to do, Isabel took her shot at making history with the company, trying to throw a party without ugly people. Something I know now from playing the role as secretary for their corporate office for two months, SF Clubs is pure evil. This undoubtedly played a role in the unfortunate series of events that took a toll on Isabel’s hard work for the night. Regardless of venue changes, date changes, band flak-age, and other inner workings I can only guess happened, she was still able to pull together a flashy line-up of local bands for the April show. If the night was a success purely out of the bizarre circumstances it would be enough. The Sound Factory is a huge, I mean they have fucking circuit parties there. So, it was a surreal experience for all of us involved to be setting up a party for indie rockers where Ibiza certified DJ’s and the likes of Juelz Santana grace the stage in front of thousands of e-heads and gangsta’z. For The Shudders and The Passionistas, I’m sure it was quite a trip but, Triple Cobra took the opportunity to the full extent by filming their set for a DVD. Overall it was about the experience and being able to walk around exploring all the various parts of the empty club that made it all worthwhile. It was fun playing records with my boy Vinylrichie, plus, I got to design the flyer which made my good friend Thea famous!
